Mom, Sounders FC, & Nessa’s 21st BDay

I found myself in a bit of a predicament on September 18, 2011.  It was my daughter’s 21st birthday, but there was not much I could do to make her day a special celebration since she is living it up in Brisbane, Australia.  So, what’s a good mom from the northwest to do?  Why, celebrate, of course.

I wanted to do something special for her so that she would know she was missed and loved and above all it had to be unique. Fortunately for me the Sounders FC had a home game so I called my niece, sister, and her boyfriend to join me at the game – tickets on me.  SCORE!!! Considering I am the ultimate soccer mom, the game presented the perfect opportunity to surprise my baby.

The amazing Jimi Hendriz

Too bad for my sister and her boyfriend as they couldn’t attend.  My niece, on the other hand showed up, and was quickly recruited to participate in my birthday plans with no hesitation whatsoever.  Once she realized what I wanted to do, she was an eager participant.  We worked our way through Pioneer Square, stopped to give Jimi some love, collected our tickets, and strolled the vendors for willing participants.

While on the ferry I drafted my very own “Happy Birthday” sign in the hopes that I could recruit my fellow soccer fans in wishing my daughter a happy birthday.  Love my Sounders Fans!  With the exception of one, everyone I approached was happy to hold my sign and wish my daughter a happy birthday!  Love Seattle Fans!  And, my Sounders.  There are no better soccer fans around and we have the most amazing team ever!  It’s a perfect combination.

Love these guys!

In honor of her birthday we gave two complete strangers tickets to the game to send some good Karma my daughter’s way.  I think I benefitted as well cause not only did I get to see the Mattster, I also go an autograph and photo with Mr. Patrick Ianni.

Patrick Ianni – what a guy!

I’m not quite sure who had more fun on my daughter’s 21st birthday–her in Brisbane, Australia or us, in Seattle, WA.  I do  know that it was the best game ever and we had a great time recruiting well wishers to join in our birthday surprise. We met lots of people, shared lots of laughs, and had a great time. And, considering my daughter spent ten years playing soccer I knew it was the ultimate present.

We even managed to get on the field and grab the Mattster!

The next day I spent the morning figuring out how to use imovie through much trial and error!   I’ll never win an Emmie, but my daughter knows she’s my special little girl and her momma loves her.  Besides, how many 21 year olds can say the Sounders fans wished them a happy 21st Birthday?
